The first question is, is this really a riddle? It looks and takes on the character of a metaphor.
It is hard to describe certain things without metaphor, we need to imagine ourselves imagining to imagine ourselves.
Thoughts on the metaphor:
- The bench, park, box and tree- it could be anything such as the universe, galaxy, solar system, planet. It could be an atom and all the bits in there. It could just a bench in a park with a box on it near a tree. The box, being both, could also represent the paradox of creation or quantum phsyics, knowing we are nothing yet we are something, we are matter yet we are non matter , we are atoms yet atoms are made up of nothing. The reality within the reality , the source, that is everything yet nothing and maybe another metaphor that would be good to describe this is Schroedingers cat experiment. Everything is possible depending on the way you look at it. Everything is what we perceive and what is real is in the box.
- The crow could be a crow, a person, a civilisation or species programmed to act in a certain way, to the unseen eye its actions are random, however, on a closer look you see there are patterns and method within its actions. The question here is whether or not the crow (whatever it is) is aware of that or not and if its actions are the crows or the, legacy, genetic programme, force ( whatever you want to call it).
- Crow taking no notice: it continues to methodically do what it is programmed to do, even when it was aware of the ? Like the forum, people returning back to old patterns that are familiar yet internally unnoticed. Indeed, even when noticed , still continued. Even with a higher understanding in our presence we still do as we are programmed and pick at strings the same way ( ask questions the same way, perceive string the same way.) We all think we are unique but if there was a crisis tomorrow, we would all act just as we are programmed to do.
- The man, he could just be a man or a higher intelligence , elite, creation of the box, the crow or both who knows both the pattern of behaviour and nature of the box , he watches the crow yet doesn't get too involved, instead observing . He is man, but he says he isn’t. another paradox, he is both? He is God? We attribute God like status to science we do not understand. The crow seems eager to give the man non human status due to his omnipotence. He could also just be the perception of the crow an another part of the box observing itself. It is interesting that he takes the box away, perhaps indicating he put it there in first place. What influenced either of those is a good question.
- Another part of the metaphor is maybe they struggle to see the true contents of the package because they are too busy thinking they are on a park on a bench looking at a box and a man who is and isn't human is telling the crow if it listens closely enough that everything it observes is everything else yet everything is in the box. We cannot see the forest for the trees, we are standing in a field of shit asking why our boots our brown.
- Father/ Mother duality: the body brain or our operating systems and biological mass that we inherited. We come from something and are aware enough to question existence and approach that existence a certain away, yet we also come from everything and are all ready part of that said existence.
PARADOXES
Everything seen as something can be observed by something and its perception is both that of something and everything when really it is all the same thing.
There are also elements of the cosmological argument:
- Whatever begins to exist has a cause.
- The Universe began to exist.
- Therefore, the Universe had a cause.
Also a bit like the Schroedingers Cat thought experiment in reverse. The situation can be thought of in a variety of ways depending on the thought influence of the box. For me this is where the metaphor/riddle gets into quantum mechanics.
duality observing duality being ruled by the paradigm of singularity and the paradox of being nothing and something 1,2 and 3 simultaneously.
soooooooooooooooo after those rambling observations on the metaphor, there remain some questions:
How can the crow talk? again,it is because it is and isn't a crow and our understanding is dependant on our perception.
How did the ? influence the crow's actions or vice versa? How did the box influence both the ? and the crow? depends on what layer you want to approach that question.
Short answer: Quantum Physics and everything we have been trying work out since forever.
Everything is nothing yet something, actions are caused and exist, yet because they are also nothing they do not exist.
