Telios and purpose. The will to fight, to put bones and flesh, altruism, to give one's life... for what one believes. These elements are so crucial. One of the reasons I consider myself a Buddhist is because I so value the Mahayana creedo: "NO enlightenment, no crossing the stream (the original Buddhists "crossed the stream" into "enightenment") until all sentient life is enlightened."

Or, as many wonderful children have said "I only want to go to heaven if my dog can come with me"...Amen!!!

We all have challenges that are adventures and which are bred into us genetically, bred into our psyche...into the archetypes which build our brain and consciousness. We forsake the green skies and pies for a chance to make a difference. That is in many respects what the archetype for the warrior is after all.

Perhaps the reason why a technology, a way towards a perfect harmonious world, is so dangerous to us is because we have been put here to test our character. After all, under the very best conditions, we suffer old age, sickness and death. The people who want to make a perfect world are alas...control freaks. The type who keep hitting the up button on the elevator as they wait for it to arrive. They exist in every culture I would imagine.... Plato's philosopher kings, Chinese Legalists who patronize the tale of the general who decreed "any man who destroys the grass on this field is to be beheaded" who consequently mistakenly destroys some grass on the field and demands to be beheaded...etc.

Utopia is indeed dangerous. It breeds reticence and conformity under conditions where questions should be asked. Technologies are mere instruments, or they are dangerous swords that cut the fingers of curious children. Is it any wonder that so much UFO activity started after we discovered nuclear bomb technologies?

Atlantis is a great example actually! Plato wrote as a historian about Atlantis in the Timaeus Socratic dialogue... he also describes the process of reincarnation in yet another dialogue. Of course these accounts are dismissed because only modern Western man can write objectively about history lol.

 

Congradulations on the new edition Shadow! Yup thats always the elephant in the middle of the room... when are we mature enough, evolved enough to take responsability for questions that involve decisions about who lives and dies, what genetic traits are passed, etc. Its scary because as a species we may need to ask these questions yet we clearly don't have the maturity to deal with ethics on this level.

The ideologues want this control...Skinner was heading that way before Chomsky defeated him by proving Skinner could not explain language through Operant conditioning and that there was therefore things about human nature that were beyond the control of the environment. If not for chomsky we may well be living in a nightmarish version of Walden. And then we have nanotech, biological tech, quantum tech and cybersystems that can be developed with the conflux of these systems... but alas the body is still a container, a useful thing that allows us to function in a very restrictive environment.

As a species that which is truly special and makes us the envy of others is haphanstanze. You can get kids in a room from places like Brooklyn, Peoria, amd every place in between. and out of that group will come kids who can create a symphony, a cure for cancer, etc. That randomness is what all these new "the model is the message" type plans to hijack, predicate our humanity, will never be able to take from us. You have twins in Korea, identical in all respects, one child is a good kid and responsible, the other becomes one of the finest violin virtuosas ever to pick up an instrument...and that is the great creator putting us in our place, gently imparting the wisdom that a thousand thinkers, like Plato and his Republic with twinkling Gold philosopher kings, can never ensconse in a plan, in a model, in a system.

Shadow, I believe our saving grace, is that even among the elites, the reptilian psychopaths, those with IQ's and physical strengths that make us small in every regard, know this genetic variability and selection process, to be true. And those among them, who value evolution and progress, would sooner watch primitives destroy each other with nuclear weapons in a virtual ground hog day, on Mars, here...than cross a line when it comes to destroying that creative power in our species. The problem is that by giving the planners some control over the process, we never are allowed to realize our value. Idealogues are alas...great planners, and when they get out of hand they can always be wiped away by the dialectic of history, on to the next revolution.

Ray Kurzweil was one of the heading founders of this conference and today heads many projects headed in this direction.

I just got word two weeks ago I'm going to be a grandmother once again to my third grandchild of my youngest son. Nobody decided if that consciousness should exist it simply was born into this world. If indeed it were 2045 this person I have not met yet probably would not have a chance in this new world order to exist. Period! Not according to Mr. Kurzweil anyway.

And last....who decides who's consciousness gets the immortality upload? Who decides if it worthy of immortality? Who decides when to shut it off? These are the questions that need some BIG answers and morality does take precedence. You have to ask yourself this question...if it was 2045 the year before you were born...do you think you would have a chance at simply BEING given your current state of affairs? They paint a real pretty picture...but of what I'm truly not certain!

I love how these big trends all fit like puzzle pieces. You called it... And its a big issue because the concept American Universities have of Marx as a revolutionary, (lol) is not the concept held by many great Marxist thinkers.

Rose's post about Utopian thinkers and ideas about scarcity, either scarcity of material, or scarcity of labor needed in a perfect society are a real problem in certain paradigms...People need to be creative and transform material, so its the same hang up we might have here...Who wants that perfect society? I think it was George Carlin who back in the day said "hey I may not smoke anymore but I always hang out in the smoking section of the plane, the people are more interesting." Are we civil, smart and wanting enough to mess with things like nuclear power, genetic modelling, etc?

Perhaps this is why a total transformation is necessary. I think this is what Marx gets at when he wants people to stop trying to start the revolution and start understanding that the way we think about the tooth brush, the capitalist, and the worker will all totally change and bare little relation to the thoughts we have now. I mention this because another theme with many pre cold war Soviet thinkers is the total change of society. How can we know (predict) what it will look like when our field of vision is not there yet as a cyber modality? I use this term to denote an artificial loop created and maintained for feedback purposes. But feedback for what?

Right on Rose! Apparently this one you found is the one the BBC found and translated. It's from the same site which I discovered from your link and can be translated to English. Now all one has to do is translate the figures to determine what the devise they are speaking of is all about. That was surely curious. I did find fig 7 & 8 bit without the translation it's tough to determine if one of those figures yet contains this so called devise.

I never got that much into Jacques Fresco and his utopian society ideas becasue some of his ideas were just a bit 1984.... To tell you the truth from my opinion there is some great advantage to technocracy in some instances...then there is the megalomania within it that scares the shit out of me. Some of what I saw amidst Mr. Fresco's work contained some of that technocracy ruling how and when a person should behave amidst a society ruled by the most qualified in a post-scarcity scenario where economy is based on advanced technology.

His ideas were to my view based on a utopian idea which everyone certainly has a quest for but often times what is considered true freedom is denied. What we strive for , a "utopia" society structure with perfection...how to create perfection?
The universe was not made to our specifications. Nor were human beings. So there is nothing surprising in the fact that we are dissatisfied with many things at many times. The big question is whether we are prepared to follow any idea or person who claims to be able to solve our problem. If we are, then there will be a never ending series of solutions, each causing new problems calling for still more solutions.

Therein lies the never ending quest, costing ever increasing amounts of the taxpayers' money and ever greater losses of your freedom to live your own life as you see fit, rather than some presumptuous ruling technocracy dictates, driven often by power and greed ..don't forget where the power elite play their game..Ultimately, our choice is to give up Utopian quests or give up our freedom. This has been recognized for centuries by some, but many others have not yet faced that reality, even today. If you think government should do something about anything that ticks you off, or anything you want and don't have, then you have made your choice... this can result by giving your power to choose away to the very people who have taken it away. It's still involves a ruling class deciding your future no matter how rosy and utopian it may sound in the end.

Fresco's ideas to me sounded again .....so 1984...scary in a world of human beings that want nothing more than to live and love in peace yet still ruled just the same...to what end? I suspect it's coming no matter what we do and I certainly hope it is as utopian as they are suggesting. But it's still a ruling class that will make our decisions for us. And from what I'm reading in this is through pacification on many levels.

One of the weird things is that marxist ideology is studied much more comprehensively in most of the world, exception being North America. A lot of the ideas that the thinking seems to be taking cyber system analysis/ chaos theory in, are visions of development with parity to the highest stages of Marxist ideology. This would technically be High communism, or Anarchy....a social order where no state authority need exist, all decisions are made according to the best instincts and institutions of Human Kind. I don't know if I am reading this ideological bent into the thinking but damn!!! it sure smacks of the Russian tendency to want to project the strong state structure necessitated, as a leading to institutions reflecting a higher consciousness.

I detect a strong faith that through mediation of the present, and the tendencies in complex arrainged variables, that this new way can emerge...

Indeed! Philosophy and Religion. Undergrad comparative, Masters Asian Religion, with a specialty in Confucian and Chinese Buddhist ethics. Wanted to finish a PHD at University of Toronto and was set to go back my second year after getting all classwork out of the way when my first born popped out! Yes Chaos theory is perhaps the first attempt post post modern thinking that attempts to wrap around quantum thinking. I have always maintained that what is so interesting about quantum theory is that unlike quite a bit of epistemology, quantum thinking is a technology (among other things). The west has been in love with theory and praxis, and models are natural to this division. In mathmatics and formal logic as well, models and forms dictate use... There is a brilliant autodidact who actually breaks this rule regarding formal logic and has the academic community so upset. The guy, Christopher Langan, has one of the highest recorded IQ's in history, I love his writing and his seminal piece The CTMU: A New Kind of Reality Theory is brilliant. Langan is an example of creative use of new thought paradigms in the creation of new thinking.

Chaos theory and the Russian systems, including an ideological system that was used subversively... are what happens after we pick up the ashes where once stood objectivity, subjectivity, a narrative based on control and privalege... This Russian subversive (I suck with names!) basically held the view that through the media, modelling, etc, an ideology of hopelessness could be spread, slowly and surely. Human behavior could be brought under total control in this fashion.. He was quite influencial in Russian circles and I see some of his influence when the author discusses the market and the media.

But yes chaos theory has been the new "modern" lol and it is very insightful to see how different cultures study these new ideas. Russian thinking is still very much influenced by ideological Marxist thinking. Marx believed that history moves in definite stages and many of the most progressive thinkers assume that the marxist materialist dialectic is still bringing human thinking to a point of high scientific understanding. That is one reason why the market...as that which transforms material into creative form and useful stuff, is such an integral part of human transformation. To the Marxist idealogue all development is in a sense., the transformative power human creativity has over material...If you look at the Russian thinkers charts and ideas, one can see the prejudice this idea holds for him.

I guess one question would be: when do our prejudice for particular forms, vis a vis cultural, ideological, nihlist (for the sake of power), existential, etc shed from human thinking? Is it in actual high communism/anarchy? when we become the perfect Platonic form/idea of self we envision for being? Langdan is actually a great read for this insight. But his stuff is too much to tangent into here.

I'm going to take a wild stab here...but I'll bet you studied and possibly majored in Philosophy in college? Then again you may have said so in a post and I've just forgotten...How cool is that! I've spent years checking the philosophy of various cultures but of course not to the extent a student would delve into and explore such avenue. I found many emergent ideas that are as fresh today as they were when written several hundred years before.

One particular notation of this area Mr. Vaino describes and I recognize from the chart that got me to search for the information in the first place is that of Dynamical Systems. In particular that of Chaos theory which branches out into many areas of randomness which eventually comes back into order. The double pendulum swings with such uncertainty yet there is a point it exhibits a rich dynamic behavior. Which of course is dependent on it's initial conditions....then I look at that chart and i see a course of actions and behavior within that chart depending on such initial conditions while mapping a dynamic behavior.

That said...Chaos theory is often used as a template (for lack of a better term) for Economy based systems.

Managing "organized Chaos" in such a dynamical systems in not new and general chaos theory often incorporates quantum mechanics in complex systems environment. That chart describes a map of one such environment as time and space forms. comparing their respective time evolution's... The "economic bubble" is often described as Chaos theory.

Now..I don't want in any way to revive a dead horse (becasue dead is where it will stay) but in a thread I started here I had not had a chance to reiterate that I extensively found chaos theory within a tomb that was discovered in the 1920's but done in the 18th dynasty in Egypt. It also coincidentally involved time. Imagine that!

Well, anyway I've yet to really dig into what was written my Mr. Vaion as this past week kicked my ass at work and I just happened on the information and it struck me as familiar in some sense and I wanted to capture what was left of the scrubbed information which has obviously been done. I sure would like to see the complete works and if anybody finds it I would sure like to see it.

As Rose pointed out in her post and his (Viano's) work also suggests managing global consciousness would be significant...to which direction Russia would take it is another matter if such a proposed devise was to be actually implemented as influential to a global consciousness in that arena of awareness to which degree and fairness were taken into consideration as authentic if you get my drift...

Husserl created something new but relied on Greek thinking, presocratic Greek Thinking, to establish a pure relationship where object and objecti-fier (my term) were exposed to layers of information, not simply the substance of the object, the object as thing, and the individual as passive sensory computer. This author also used the same thinker that Husserl's most famous student used when describing the relationship of substance as being primary...that would be the use of Renee Descartes...Either the first Renaissance philosopher, the last medieval philosopher, or a Jesuite apologist who proved the existence of God (I think therefore I am) to passify the Jesuits so they would let him concentrate on his math.

When looking at the interrelationships of the different chart headings, one can see how each nexus of meaning is contextualized to correspond with the others, and not simply as a giant category in itself...Husserl does much the same thing regarding perception. Husserl was interested in establishing a pure thetic certainty between an object in total (not just its substance, appearance, etc) and the perception of this object as our intervention as perceptor (my term) created a relationship to the object. Post modern thinkers are often trying to do the same with systems, human groups and results... Deconstructing assumptions and breaking down the primary relational of "substance" to examine these reifications carefully.

A brief look at the Husserl hyperlink for the lecture he gave in Vienna will show how he deconstructs the various models we used at that time...One should be aware that Husserl's motivation to do this was to show that philosophy held the potential to establish a purer, more certain (aphodictic) method than Math or the sciences...He did this partially because Hegel had created a situation in Europe where the dialectic subsumed all disciplines and turned them into mere expressions of nationalism...History became the furer and philosophy, the sciences, all history's bitches! Husserl had the task of fighting against this, and taking on perhaps the biggest rock star of all the dead white guys! So that is the context for Husserl.

I see a similar enterprise here because of references made, because Russians and continental thinkers tend to study Husserl as a "philosophers philosopher"... Husserl was respected even by thinkers like Satre, he was also respected for his knowledge of Greek thinking. Heidegger and him both understood presocratic thinking perhaps better than any other great thinker, including Kant...who also went back to the Greeks!

I see this Russian thinker's attempt to establish a new set of relationships based on Quantum unpredictability, and the three technologies that are organic and not simply something to introduce that is different from the ontic (being) of species, as being very similar to what Husserl did. Not only because of the references made to Descartes and to the author's suspicion of mathmatics and attempt tounderstand different Geometries but also because of his chart and other comments. Alas this is an opinion. but I enjoyed the work presented and always hope to remind people that many of the gifted thinkers we seek answers from today, studied the guys in the past. Also BIg picture thinking is not being taught to our children in school, it is vital that big picture thinkers write and put down material! I think this guy may be a big picture thinker.

I can see why Russia might scrub it perhaps but the scrubbing indeed apparently happened. So what I captured (copied) is incomplete.

I was indeed intrigued when I saw the chart provided from the original paper ... I'll recopy it here. Which had me searching for it...and that is when I found it scrubbed. And it was definitely scrubbed. Remember this guy was appointed as Chief of Staff....which makes one certainly wonder. Little background with a Masters in economics and some sciences one wonders what this guy's qualifications are that would put him in this position and why they did not scrub the piece before appointment.

I haven't taken the time to really dig into the paper as it stands and without the added images that are obviously missing with the exception of this one it leaves one to wonder...WTF????

You can only surmise why it intrigues me as a protocol of the relationship of time and space that it would interest me....LOL

Very Dense material indeed! My own bias is to see thinkers attempt to incorporate totally new ways of thinking and when we do so we have what we worked with in the past, and what we hope to find in the future. The author makes reference to Descartes at one point and what is interesting about this is that when Martin Heidegger wanted to create a new ontology (Dasiene as man's concern for his own being as a relational ontic) he used the Cartesian relationship of substance and extension to do so...And in doing so he relied to a great extent on the philosophical vocabulary of the Greeks who had so many different nuances for the appearance of an object...so many that the object as substance with extension into space, need not be primary.

A simple way to see this process of postulating new models as organic parts of new systems, is to see what has happened with computers. Originally it was assumed that people organized a desk...so naturally we had file manager and we had a desktop, yada yada. We are leaving that world behind as we have different apps with many relational modalities that create relationship to an enterprise with an end user and with a defined process. We are not restrained by needing the desk, or the primacy of a culture... What becomes paramount is the interconnection of the app to other apps, to the user and to the potential to adjust as part of a cyber system where other elements come together....But with no reference point what so ever.

Before his Kremlin promotion the Estonian-born high flyer served as a diplomat, including a stint at the Tokyo embassy.

But an investigation by BBC Russian into Mr Vaino's academic work reveals intriguing details about him and may offer clues about his worldview.

Like many officials of his generation, reports say he has a master's degree in economics and has contributed to various scientific publications.

In 2012 an article appeared in a specialist journal called Economics and Law written by an "AE Vaino" - widely believed to be one and the same person as Mr Putin's new chief of staff.

It was titled "The capitalisation of the future"
