I have one very special one that I recorded at my cousin's place out on the hills of Wales in the night time with a very low background noise level. It's a binaural recording that sounds magically real on a nice pair of headphones. It's actually 2 storms passing by one after the other. I only managed to start the recorder just as the first one was fading away, then the second one came into the soundscape from the opposite side that the first was moving away from. Last night was one for the record books here. I spend my evenings in spa sunken approximately one foot above floor level. Directly facing me is a corner of the room facing west. To either side are large sliding patio door windows providing an unobstructed, except by the small corner walls, ground level to sky view. I observe the often amazing and ever different sunset show each evening and afterwards the moon and stars as I post from my laptop. At this time I just see a pinkish orange through the trees soon to fade into the horizon. With the windows open and a moderate cool breeze wafting in during the storm last night the steady drops falling from the roof appeared as a thick sparkling beaded curtain via a small outdoor light in the eave. The at least 20 minute lightning and thunder show was mesmerizing with several loud flashing bolts striking rather near to the west shaking the ground. Do you have options for how to play a high quality sound file ? laptop audio outputs are pretty low down the scale of things. An old skool ipod 5th generation would be much better. A high resolution portable player with nice headphones plugged into it would be even better. Ideally, you'd need to be somewhere very quiet while you listen to it. The highest quality original file is 24bit/96K. A player that can handle that without downgrading it would be best but I'll almost bet you don't have one of those. And anyway, even the tightest chop of the very best bit is nearly 2gigs at that quality so I'd struggle to find a sharing site to handle it. A good compromise would be a 16bit/44k ALAC or FLAC file. MP3 doesn't do a recording like that justice, but if desperation strikes I could try a 320kbs mp3, it's the highest mp3 bitrate. . . . .Well, you did ask Nov 11, 2021 6:51 PM - Rose: I cast audio/video files from my laptop through my Vizio flatscreen to a very efficient compact stereo Bose speaker. You could try uploading a FLAC into a post and see if it will work. I have added FLAC to allowed attachment extensions. It takes a while for lengthy files to load.
